Increasing the total current by having two fused legs is therefor pulling more current on the primary wire than what it was originally designed for. The primary wire (before fuses) gauge is matched to the fuse size. The original circuit ideally should keep it's same fuse rating. One circuit is going to be the dash cam and the power outlet in the car is just used to charge devices, like iPhones. I was going to put in two 10 amp fuses, as I have to get mini fuses now as the low profile fuses don't fit. Now, the instructions which are not very clear, say in slot A of the fuse tape, put in your original fuse and in slot B put in my new accessory fuse.
On my fuse tap, which states a max of 10 amp, should I put in two 10 amp fuses (one for the original circuit, one for my dash cam), or should I put in two 7.5amp fuses which equal 15amp which is the total of the original fuse, or two 5 amp fuses, total 10 amps like the package says, max 10 amps.
So, lets say I choose the 15amp power outlet fuse to tap into. I need to tap into the fuse box for both a battery always on fuse and an accessory fuse.Īlthough we use low profile mini fuses, I purchased two mini fuse taps. Preparing for the arrival of my dash cam.
